On April 1, 2026, Christopher Carmichael argued a significant case challenging how the State of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) conducted the recreational cannabis lottery in Chicago.
The lawsuit brought by Well-Being Holistic Group, addresses whether Illinois lived up to its statements about equitably distributing cannabis licenses when the IDFPR allowed two groups affiliated with hundreds of applications to flood the lottery and more than double the size of the pool.
